Cathy Melcher
Marketing and Communications Lead

What led you to work for Linton Engineering?

An amazing friend and current LE employee referred me to Dave and Stephanie Linton four years ago. She was confident that I could apply more than 30 years of experience in marketing communications and change management to elevating the firm’s marketing deliverables.

What do you enjoy most about working for LE?

One word sums up what I enjoy most about LE: Integrity. LE’s highly diverse team of professionals truly care about quality and fulfilling LE’s promise of Creativity, Responsiveness and Timeliness, and work collaboratively with building owners, architects, and construction companies to accurately show how the various components of a structure come together. As a marketing professional, it’s impressive when a firm’s reputation simply speaks for itself.

How has the firm changed over the years?

It’s a bit of an internal joke that several years ago you could hear a pin drop when you went into the office. The work environment has certainly evolved, but it’s because team members are diligently working together to refine a design approach, consult with clients, and incorporate feedback into the team’s designs. I would say the firm also takes having fun more seriously and uses team building as a way to deepen trust and critical interdependencies.

What is your hope for the future of LE?

LE’s stellar reputation has been built over the past 20 years. My hope is to further fuel the firm’s growth by sharing stories about LE’s unique expertise in high-end custom residences, academic facilities and historic renovation and restoration projects. The firm’s proximity to the Washington DC metro area affords even more opportunity to leave an impressive and lasting legacy across the region.

What is the best piece of advice you've been given?

“Fake it until you make it.” I think this advice really applies since my more than three decades of experience in defense and aerospace engineering had little application to the field of Structural Engineering. However, marketing methodologies and operational strategies are transferable from one marketspace to another. I also found that my background in change management was relevant in helping to guide the team in devising ways to creatively implement operational efficiencies that can make day to day tasks easier to accomplish.
