What led you to work in the field of structural engineering?
I followed in my dad’s footsteps, who was also a structural engineer. Problem-solving and finding solutions have always been my passion. In addition, I loved math and science. Structural engineering applies both math and science principles in a tangible way for me.
What do you enjoy most about working for Linton Engineering?
I like the exchange of ideas. We have a friendly work environment. I also like our various project types, some very challenging, and our consistent approach to quality assurance.
How has the firm changed over the years?
The firm has grown substantially. The company’s problem-solving power and accumulated experience have grown and diversified. Everyone is engaged in some capacity in quality improvement. The exchange of ideas during frequent staff meetings is a part of our culture and leads to consistent design quality standards.
What has been your favorite Linton project, and why?
My favorite Linton Engineering project was St. Thomas Parish, 1772 Church Street in Washington D.C., a four-level reinforced concrete and post-tensioned concrete structure. Very complicated and challenging both from the point of view of gravity loads as well as from the point of view of lateral load systems. Numerous structural systems were included and put together such as mat foundation, reinforced concrete construction, post-tensioned concrete construction, and steel framing, cold-formed steel.
