Robert Schottler, PE
Senior Associate Structural Engineer | Commercial Team Lead
Linton Engineering Team Member since 2008

What led you to work in the field of engineering?

At an early age I always enjoyed construction and building things. When I was in high school, I had summer jobs doing construction, HVAC installation, electrical work, and plumbing. I learned quickly that I wanted to be in an office doing design work.

What do you enjoy most about working for Linton Engineering?

I like the people. I enjoy working in an atmosphere where everyone gets along; and we work as a team to collaborate on ideas and to complete projects on time.

How has the firm changed over the years?

The firm has grown. When I started it was just Dave, another engineer, a drafter, and me. The firm has grown to a size where we can design different types of projects of all sizes. The company has expanded to a point where we are capable of designing various types of projects, regardless of their scale.

What has been your favorite project and why?

The 1772 Church St project in Washington DC. It was a challenging 7- story concrete building with a 2-level below ground parking garage. The building site had an existing church that was demolished but the existing façade had to be retained when constructing the new building, consisting of a church and apartments. The upper floors of the apartment have terraces and green roof areas. The concrete framing required sloped columns and transfer beams. The foundation system required sheeting and shoring, underpinning of the existing church and a mat slab. With the retained existing church façade and the new brick and metal panel façade, the finished building looked really good.
