David Watson, PE
Senior Structural Engineer
Linton Engineering Team Member since 2016
What led you to work in the field of structural engineering?
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to take technology courses in high school as part of the Project Lead the Way program, which allowed me to explore various engineering disciplines through different classes. The class I enjoyed the most was Civil Engineering and Architecture. This led me to pursue a civil engineering degree in college. I discovered my strengths and interests were in structural engineering courses such as structural analysis, structural steel design, and finite element method analysis.
What do you enjoy most about working for Linton Engineering?
I like being able to work on a variety of projects, each with their own individual challenges. Because Linton is a smaller firm, I can see projects through from start to finish. In a larger firm it’s more likely that an engineer would be focused on only certain elements of a project, losing sight of the project as a whole, and pigeonholed into working solely in one discipline. At Linton I have been able to work on projects greatly varied in size and scope across commercial, educational, residential, and industrial sectors.
How has the firm changed over the years?
As a firm we have worked to develop our collective strengths. We work more collaboratively on projects within the office now as a result. We also have kept pace with the technological developments within the structural engineering field and are able to continue to pursue larger and more complex projects while continuously improving our quality of service for the client.
What has been your favorite Linton project and why?
It’s tough to choose just one, but some memorable projects include Martha’s Table, Lightridge High School, 1321-1323 Rhode Island Ave, Skylla House, and some of our data center work, amongst many others.
